She has developed innovative, large-scale stitch resist work based on traditional African Adire and Japanese Shibori. She uses indigo, madder, weld, and several native plants grown and collected at her home and studio in Danby, New York. Maureen also practices reuse and repurpose strategies to source her cloth and clothing for dye work. Cloth with a history contributes to the depth of color, drape, and complexity of the surface of hand-dyes. Sustainable dyes, cloth, and water use is an important part of Maureen’s practice.
